Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art created in the 1500's by African slaves. The slaves were not allowed to practice any fighting techniques that they had learned in Africa. To overcome this restriction, the slaves practiced the fighting moves and techniques disguising them as dances. The techniques presented here are very unique and deceptive. Developed by the leaders of the New York Branch, the moves bring together their comprehensive knowledge of traditional Capoeira techniques and other martial arts. The New York City Branch incorporates boxing, the African martial art of Batuque and Brazilian jiu jitsu in its Capoeira.
